Washing machine installation checklist: prepare the site and agree the job

Before installation, identify the exact model, confirm the intended position and existing service points, and agree who will complete the setup and test. A delivered washer is not automatically ready for laundry. Use this checklist to resolve missing information before the appointment, then use the separate handover checklist when the work is finished.

This is an owner preparation guide for an automatic washing machine. It helps you describe the site and make an informed booking; it does not replace model-specific installation instructions or authorise plumbing and electrical alterations.

Start with your exact model. Check the appropriate starting point, follow the setup decision sequence, then use the completion checklist.

For help in Bangalore, check visiting and inspection charges before booking.

Choose the checklist that matches your situation

Different starting points need different preparation
Starting pointPrepare first
New washer still packagedPurchase details, full model, delivery condition and included installation arrangements.
New washer already connectedWhat was connected, who did it and whether commissioning was completed.
Existing washer moved to another homePrevious operating condition, transport preparation and destination requirements.
Washer replacing another applianceNew model dimensions and requirements; do not assume old connections automatically suit it.
Stacked, built-in or enclosed locationExact arrangement, approved accessories and specialist handling requirements.
Known leak, damaged cable or electrical concernAssessment and safe isolation before an installation test.

Mark anything uncertain as “needs confirmation.” A checklist is useful because it exposes gaps, not because every box is ticked. If the tap cannot be isolated or a required point does not exist, tell the provider before the visit.

Six stages to a prepared installation appointment

  1. Collect the model and purchase information

Use the full model from the invoice or a safely accessible label. Keep the installation section of the manual available. For a new purchase, check whether the seller or manufacturer has already arranged installation and whether anything must remain packaged until their visit.

  2. Describe the intended position

Record the recess or floor area, door or lid opening space and any nearby obstruction. Include access to the tap, outlet and drain after the machine is in place. Use the actual model requirements instead of a generic gap copied from another appliance.

  3. Confirm the existing connection points

Identify the water supply and waste arrangement from normal safe access. Tell the provider about a defective tap, shared connection or uncertain power point. Do not create an improvised connection so the site appears ready in a photograph.

  4. Plan the handling route

Explain stairs, lifts, tight turns, thresholds and stacked equipment. Ask who provides the necessary handling and whether it is included. Do not assume a standard installation appointment includes moving the washer through the building or lifting it into a cabinet.

  5. Agree scope and possible extras

Ask what normal positioning, connection, preparation and commissioning include. Separate required compatible materials from optional accessories. If site work is needed, agree who completes it and whether the installation appointment should follow that work.

  6. Prepare for the handover

Keep someone available who can understand the controls and receive the completion explanation. Have the invoice, manual and booking record ready. Agree that unfinished work or a blocked test will be recorded rather than described simply as installation complete.

Why the full model matters before the technician arrives

Brand and capacity are useful beginnings, but they do not identify every connection, accessory or setup procedure. Closely named models can differ. Send a clear model reference rather than asking a provider to infer the configuration from a front-view photograph alone.

A foreign-region video can also show a different supply arrangement from the machine sold in India. Do not add a second water line, copy an electrical connection or assume an accessory is required because it appears in that video. Ask the installer to work from the correct documentation.

For a second-hand appliance, gather the manual and any known repair or transport history. Missing documents do not make a generic procedure appropriate. Model identification may be the first useful task before a reliable quote can be prepared.

If the label is inaccessible, use the invoice or earlier service record first. Do not pull a heavy washer forward by its hoses simply to obtain a photo. Explain the access problem and let the provider plan for it.

A pre-visit information sheet

Copy these questions into your booking note
InformationWhat to write
MachineFull model; new, used or recently moved; any known fault.
LocationBangalore locality or PIN code; floor; lift or stair access.
PositionAvailable measurements and opening direction; any enclosure or stacking.
ConnectionsExisting tap, drain and power provision; uncertainty or visible defect.
HandlingWhere the appliance currently stands and who will move it.
AppointmentIncluded work, approved extras, complete charges and person attending.

You can send this as a short message; precise facts matter more than a long description. For example, “Front loader in its box on the ground floor; installation is on the first floor without lift access” gives the provider a real handling question to resolve. It should not be hidden behind “normal installation.”

What a ready site does and does not mean

A ready site is suitable for the exact washer and accessible for the work being quoted. It has the required existing services and enough room for correct positioning and use. The presence of any tap, any drain and any socket is not a complete suitability check.

Whirlpool’s general installation guidance explicitly assumes appropriate water, drainage and electrical provision and directs readers to the actual installation manual. Treat that as the distinction between connecting an appliance at a suitable site and creating or correcting building services.

For space planning, use the installation-space guide. For the water connection, use the inlet-hose guide. Neither a neat recess nor a connector that appears to fit establishes that the whole setup is suitable.

If a landlord or building manager needs to approve work, resolve that before drilling, altering cabinetry or changing a shared service. This is a coordination question for your property, not an assumption that all Bangalore apartments have the same rules.

Divide responsibilities before there is a problem

Delivery, handling, installation and repair can be performed by different people. Ask which provider is responsible for each stage. A delivery acknowledgement should not silently stand in for confirmation that connections and commissioning were completed.

If a plumber or electrician must first correct a site condition, record the requirement in ordinary language and agree the sequence. Avoid two appointments where each provider arrives expecting the other’s work to be complete.

For an existing machine, distinguish its earlier condition from the requested installation. If it already failed to drain before the move, a reconnection booking does not include a drain repair by implication. Mention that history early so the quotation matches the task.

For a new appliance, retain the seller and manufacturer route for delivery damage or product concerns. Independent installation should not obscure who supplied the product or what the original purchase included.

Approve materials by need and compatibility

A hose, adapter or accessory should be identified by the role it performs and its suitability for the model and site. Ask what is missing or unsuitable and why the proposed item is needed. “Everyone buys this” is not a useful explanation.

Ask whether an item is supplied in the appliance package before paying for another. If an included item cannot be used at your site, request the reason and the alternative specification. Keep the material and fitting allowance clear in the quotation.

A stand, pad, softener or filter should not be treated as a compulsory universal installation kit. Some arrangements may be appropriate in a specific documented setup; others may not address the actual issue. Agree optional purchases separately.

If an item cannot be confirmed compatible, pause that part of the work. Improvised extensions, forced connectors and concealed site changes can leave the customer with a completed invoice but an unresolved installation question.

Prepare the area without doing the installer’s job

Clear loose household items from the working route and protect access for other people. Keep children and pets away from the work area. Tell the provider if the appliance is close to a balcony edge, behind fixed furniture or in another location that affects safe access.

Have the manual, booking details and any manufacturer appointment record available. Keep supplied parts together so nothing is discarded as packaging before it has been identified. Do not pre-remove unfamiliar fasteners to save appointment time.

You do not need to operate a damaged or leaking appliance to demonstrate that it needs attention. Describe the current condition. Safe photos can be useful, but a record is not worth recreating a hazardous event.

Allow time for the agreed completion check and explanation. If access or supply becomes unavailable on the day, record what cannot be checked and who will return. The right outcome may be a clearly incomplete installation awaiting the missing condition.

Three bookings that should be scoped differently

Illustrative situations: These examples explain repair decisions. They are not records of actual FixMyWasher customer jobs.

A new washer arrives at a suitable accessible utility point

Confirm what installation the purchase already includes and what the chosen appointment covers. A straightforward site can support a standard scope without automatically adding accessories.

The washer fits the recess but the tap cannot be reached afterwards

Resolve the access requirement before final positioning. A successful delivery measurement is not enough to establish a usable installation.

A moved washer already had a recurring drain fault

State the previous fault separately from reinstallation. The provider should distinguish reconnection, commissioning and any diagnosis required.

Budget for the actual installation work

Indicative FixMyWasher guide estimate: ₹400–₹800 for standard installation at a ready, accessible site. This covers the agreed normal positioning, suitable existing connections and relevant commissioning checks. It is a proposed budgeting range, not a surveyed market average or a fixed price for every machine.

Keep these scopes separate
WorkBudget or quotation basis
Standard ready-site installation₹400–₹800 for the agreed scope.
Compatible hoses, fittings or other supplied itemsItem-specific quotation before approval.
New plumbing, electrical changes or special handlingSeparate scope; confirm the responsible provider.
Diagnosis or repair of an existing faultSeparate evidence-based quotation.

Use the range only for an agreed ready-site task. An inaccessible position, incomplete plumbing or a pre-existing fault changes the scope; it should be explained before extra work is approved.

The final amount depends on brand, exact model, required part or fitting, access, location and work involved. The estimate excludes separately confirmed visit or inspection amounts, additional materials, site changes, transport, special access, unrelated repairs and any applicable tax not expressly included. Ask for the complete payable total; do not pay twice for fitting already included.

See the installation-charges guide for the full comparison. A booking is not approval for every additional item that might later be suggested.

Manufacturer reference and scope

The source supports the distinction between a suitable prepared site and new service-point work. Its regional examples are not universal Indian dimensions or connection instructions. The booking worksheet here is an owner planning tool.

Booking, visiting and inspection charges

The visiting charge is ₹200 if no repair is carried out. Inspection charges depend on location. Share your Bangalore locality or PIN code and confirm all applicable charges together before booking. ₹200 is not an advertised complete repair or parts-replacement price.

Ask how the visiting and inspection charges are treated if a repair proceeds. No automatic waiver, deduction or additional charge should be assumed. Your approved quote should make clear whether these amounts are included, credited or payable separately, and state any applicable tax and the final payable total.

For an installation-only, disconnection or reinstallation enquiry, confirm the applicable booking and cancellation terms specifically. The no-repair visiting rule is not a complete installation price, and it should not be used to assume how a different service is charged.

Understand the installation and supplied-part terms

New parts supplied by FixMyWasher carry a one-year warranty. Ask for the supplied part to be identified on your job record or invoice. This applies to that new part; it does not turn the job into a one-year warranty on the entire washing machine.

Repairing an existing component is different from supplying a new one. Confirm the terms for repaired boards, retained parts, workmanship, labour, revisits and customer-supplied items separately. Do not infer those terms from the new-parts warranty.

Keep the quote, approved changes and completion record together. If the symptom returns, report what happened and when rather than assuming that the same part has failed. Stop using the washer if it leaks significantly, trips the circuit or develops a burning smell.

Installation labour, adjustments and a setup check without a supplied new part do not create a one-year whole-machine warranty. Confirm workmanship and revisit terms separately. Check any installation included with a new purchase before arranging independent work; FixMyWasher does not claim manufacturer-authorised status.

Request help with a clearly described setup task

Tell us which item on the preparation checklist is unresolved. A specific access, connection or setup question is easier to scope than a request to “install anything needed.”

For a Bangalore enquiry, share your locality or PIN code, exact model, whether the machine is new or moved, and safe photos of the intended position and existing connections if useful. Confirm availability, service scope and all charges before booking. Transport, heavy lifting, new plumbing and electrical work are not automatically included in an appliance visit.

Use the installation service guide to prepare the request, or contact FixMyWasher. There is no need to dismantle the washer or recreate a fault to obtain a quotation.

Frequently asked questions

Is delivery the same as installation?

No. Confirm whether the delivery includes positioning, connections, model-specific preparation and the agreed operating checks.

What should I send before booking?

The full model, Bangalore locality, purchase or moving status, access information and a description of existing water, drain and power points.

Does a nearby tap mean the site is ready?

Not by itself. The actual connection, access and model requirements still need checking.

Should I unpack everything before the installer arrives?

Follow the seller or manufacturer’s instructions and keep supplied parts together. Do not discard unidentified fittings or remove unfamiliar fasteners.

Do all washers need the same installation gap?

No. Use the exact installation drawing and include operating and service access.

Are hoses and adapters always included in the price?

No universal inclusion applies. Check the package contents and the written quotation for any required additional items.

Does standard installation include new plumbing?

Do not assume so. New or corrected building services are a separate scope to agree.

Should I buy a stand before the visit?

Only after establishing whether the proposed support is suitable and necessary for the actual machine and location.

What if a test cannot be completed?

Record the missing condition, unfinished work and next action. Delivery or connection alone should not be represented as full commissioning.

Does the checklist certify the installation?

No. It helps prepare and ask questions; it does not replace the correct installation procedure or a professional assessment.
